Tick Prevention Tips

With these 9 simple prevention tips, your backyard will be a lot less desirable to ticks and tick host animals.

1. Place your children’s play area and patio sets in an open, sunny area in the yard. Be sure it is kept away from woods and bushes
2. Establish a perimeter. Place crushed stone and/or woodchips as an outside barrier around your property.
3. Quickly eliminate dead leaves, brush, damp sticks and leaf litter that may have accumulated around your yard.
4. Keep wood piles dry and away from the house. A sunny location is the best!
5. Keep trees pruned to create more sunlight.
6. Mow your grass frequently and keep it short!
7. Seal holes in stone walls, which can harbor ticks and rodents carrying ticks.
8. Plant deer resistant plants so that deer go elsewhere for food.
9. Plant deer and small animal deterrents like lily of the valley, honeysuckle, lavender, and wisteria so they do not feel welcomed.
