Fleas – Their Bite Will Get You In New Jersey

My neighbor recently went to visit her family in Florida.  They took their three dogs with them and were all having a fantastic time until their dogs started scratching uncontrollably.  They had been treated with topical flea and tick products; but while playing in the yard, those poor dogs still contracted fleas. The dogs were suffering from welts and rashes and over the counter treatment products were not doing the trick.  They were so badly infested by the time that they returned back home that it required a visit to the vet.  After many creams and antibiotics, plus several hundreds of dollars, the dogs are finally on the road to recovery.

Fleas in New Jersey are not known to carry infectious diseases, but they can be quite a nuisance none-the-less.  They prefer to live on cats, dogs, squirrels and other outdoor furry creatures; but they will not hesitate to take a bite out of a human if given the chance.

  • A female flea can lay 2,000 eggs in her lifetime.

  • Fleas can live without a blood meal for 100 days.

  • A flea can jump up to 4 feet so it is easy for them to spot their target and land on it from a good distance away.

If you have fleas on the outside of your home, it is likely that you have or will have fleas on the inside of your home.  Outside, fleas breed in humid, shady and moist areas where there is organic debris or where pets frequent.  Inside, fleas will breed in carpet, beds, pillows and furniture.

Take the bite out of your flea population by hiring a licensed New Jersey pest control company to get rid of the blood thirsty creatures.  At ChemTec Pest Control we offer pest control in Bergen County, NJ; Essex County, NJ; Hudson County, NJ; Passaic County, NJ; Morris County, NJ; Union County, NJ; and Rockland County, NY as well as Orange County, NY.  We can get the job done for you!
