Avoiding Bed Bugs While You Travel Part II Of II
Posted on 07.06.09 in Bed Bugs, Industry Tips, New Jersey Insects, New Jersey Pest Control
In continuation from last Friday…
Bed bugs are nocturnal and are masters at hiding. Nothing is off limits to them. I always pick up the telephone, which is usually on the nightstand, and lightly drop it a few times to see if any bed bugs drop out of the phone. Check inside of the drawers of the nightstand and dresser and pay special attention to the areas where the wood meets together. This is a perfect hiding place for bed bugs. Bed bugs are also known to hide out in the frame of the bed or behind the headboard. Do a thorough check of these areas as well.
Mirrors, pictures, and peeling wallpaper also provide excellent hiding places for bed bugs. If you see a white “dust” around the room or in any drawers, it is likely that the room is being treated for bed bugs. I would recommend that you ask the management for a new room (far from this room) or better yet, transfer to a new hotel if you think the room is being treated for bed bugs.
The last thing I do to prevent bed bug infestations is to wash all of my clothing immediately upon my arrival back home. I then vacuum my luggage, paying special attention to the interior edges of the luggage, just in case a bed bug came in and decided to lay eggs in my bag.
It may sound like a lot of work, but knowing that you are not sleeping with bed bugs will allow you to have a restful nights sleep and enjoy your vacation.
